Few resorts can boast the privileges of Sitges: a breathtaking landscape, seventeen golden beaches that stretch along 4 kilometres, a full and varied cultural life throughout the year and a busy festive calendar which is one of the busiest in all of Spain. Every month there is some kind of a festival or event. From the beginning of the year to the spectacular Carnival or one of the many saints days there is something for everyone in the town that really knows how to party.

Sitges is a beautiful seaside resort within close proximity to Barcelona. Due to the short 45-minute train ride, the charming town has become a favourite summer destination for Barcelona residents and visitors alike. While most visitors go directly to the beach, the historic town does not lack in cultural and historical aspects. La Vila Vella (Old Sitges) traces its roots to the pre-Roman period. It remained an agricultural and fishing village before turning into a defensive castle in mediaeval times, but with increased commercial links to the Americas in the 18th century, Sitges entered the modern period with greater affluence and importance. The Fin de Siècle period attracted many Catalan artists, writers and intelligentsia, thus making Sitges a focal point of Catalan identity and leading to the construction of many Modernista buildings – an important manifestation of Catalan self-expression.

IF I ever wanted to go to the beach, 9 times out of 10 I'd go to Sitges. It's only about a 25 minute ride from downtown, and getting to the Barcelona beaches would take me a good 20 minutes from my apartment anyway, including 3 metro transfers. All of that aside, Sitges is just a much nicer, cleaner, safer beach to be on. Not that the BCN beach is that unsafe (aside from the polluted water), but there are countless #s of theft when people turn their back on their valuables for more than 2 seconds. Sitges is alot cleaner and its a cool little town too. You can even get there by train from the Passeig de Gracia station, much more convenient that Sants Estacio. Also, Sitges has the best/craziest Carnaval celebration in all of Catalunya, so you should def. check it out if you are in the area around then.

A friend had visited visited Sitges and told me to check it out when I got to Barcelona. Actually, he recommened we stay there, and commute daily to Barcelona. I decided not to do that, but later regretted not spending a FEW nites there. Sitges, in November was wonderfully quiet. I imagine in Summer its an entirely different story. Got there via train in less than an hour!

Sitges. Behind Esglesia del Evangelista (picture) on C. Fonollar, the Museu Cau Ferrat hangs over the water's edge. Also the Museu Maricel del Mar has a selective collection of medieval painting and sculpture.

Sitges has been long considered a watered down Ibiza City. However it has better beaches and won't find a crazier beach oriented nightlife than this on mainland Spain. This is a great day trip from Barcelona (40 minutes on the Cercanias Trains from Barcelona-Sants and M:Garcia every 15 minutes)

a town about 25 minutes by train from barcelona which hosts an annual film festival, a mardi gras and a pretty cosmo mix of straight and gay. it looks like a mini-cannes with it's beautiful seafront. it's a great place to just hop on the train to and be somewhere else. you can walk up and down the promenade, check out the shops, grab some good food or go mental. the old town is especially nice with a picture postcard church at the edge.
the hotel subur isn't the prettiest from the outside (very modern) but it's got great views as you can see. e:[email protected]

Sitges is a lovely place and much nicer if you want to go swimming.
You can get there by train from Barcelona Sants station or by car taking the road towards Tarragona. If you want to get there fast: Take the toll road but I recommend the road running along the coast. Hard to keep your eyes on the road.
Sitges also has a good nightclub: Atlantida which is open air right on the beach. FAB!
Nightclub only open May-October though.
There is also a film festival which can be quite bizarre.

Sitges approximately 45 minutes away from Barcelona. Lovely tree lined beaches with a lively nightlife.

Don't forget to visit a small city of Sitges, situated not so far from BCN. The city is very beautiful

While in Barcelona, you should go to Sitges, a resort town about 20 miles south on the coast. This is a very pretty town with plenty to do.
