Unpredictable Vienna
Luggage and bags: Trolleys are best for my taste
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: definitly some good walking shoes...weather proof...it rains a lot here!
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: nothing special needed...probably only your prescription medicine, everyting you can get at the so called "Apotheke" aka pharmacy
Miscellaneous: You should definitly check two or three days before travelling to Vienna to know what you should pack...the weather is ver unpredictable, I can remeber very cold christmas and also very warm ( 20 degrees in sun)...in the last years there was no snow...so most probably no white christmas in vienna!
In summer it can get very hot and humid...up to 35 degrees!!! you can imagine how this feels like in the city. Most of the places in Vienna still do not have air conditioning.
Spring and Autumn are always kind of rainy. Prepare to pack good weatherproof shoes. It is normally also very windy...a soft shell jacket could be of great help! -
Vienna Packing List
Luggage and bags: Make sure you only bring a small luggage with you. Since you'll be visiting a country in the vicinity of the European Union, you'll be sure to visit plenty of other places. If you're travelling for about a month, a medium-sized luggage plus a hand-carry will suit your purposes well.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Make sure to bring a thermal wear. It looks like a sando and can save you a lot of clothes. You can use this rather than having to layer on three to four clothes. Also make sure to bring a pair of rubber shoes and boots as it can be cold especially during winter and right after. Bring at least two to three sweaters. They can be quite bulky so keep it to a minimum. Bring plenty of socks though (about five to six pairs) because you might want to put them on at night. Two pairs of gloves will do. Also remember to bring on a head gear like a wool cap.
You don't need to bring too much change of clothes as you're not likely to perspire much. Just bring clothes good enough for one week. Regular laundry will do the trick.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Petroleum jelly and plenty of lotion is an important part of your toiletries. I once experienced my skin drying up and cracking and it was not pretty. Petroleum jelly will keep your lips from being chapped. You can also use it at night on your hands and feet. Make sure to bring medications for allergies especially for those whose skin get a little sensitive when it comes to temperature changes.
Photo Equipment: Any camera will do unless you're a real photographer buff. You might want to bring along a really good camera, though, in order to catch the really good landscapes in Austria.- Adventure Travel

Packing list for Early June
Luggage and bags: If possible try to leave whatever you don't need at your hotel. Large backpacks or visible cameras will make it obvious you are a tourist and makes it more likely that you will be a target for pick pockets or those wishing to rip you off. As with all European cities, try to fit in with the locals as best as possible.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Weather is usually nice in June therefore light clothes is the best to bring, although still bring a light jacket in case it rains or is cool. If going to a classical music concert, dress up in, at the minimum business casual. A shirt and a sports jacket should be worn and even wearing a tie is preferable. Do not wear jeans, T-Shirts, or shorts if going to a classical music concert. -
Prepare for a Hot, Hot, Hot Summer
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: It is very hot in Vienna now (27 May 2007) ~ day temperature up to 31 Celsius & evening can be 25 C. You will need light-weight breathable clothings such as cotton or linen, comfortable walking sandals or shoes, and a good hat or cap. Don't forget your cool-looking dark sunglasses!
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Bring lots of sun-screen and sunblock lotions or creams for face and body to protect against the strong UV sun rays.
Miscellaneous: If possible, bring along a small travel battery-operated fans or the hand manual fans. Carry around a bottle of water. -
Read about the Habsburgers
Miscellaneous: If Vienna inspires you to get to know more about the Habsburg dynasty, then I can recommend the book "The Habsburgs" by Dorothy Gies McGuigan. I read the German version of it. It describes the family history from 1273 until 1918 with all its love stories and scandals and historical aspects plus there are a few pictures in this paperback too. I actually bought it in Vienna in August 06.

to bring
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: at the time of my visit, the temperature in vienna didn't go above freezing so, too bad for me. however, i knew that beforehand (thanks to accuweather.com). always check what the weather will be like especially if you're travelling during the winter so you can anticipate any problems that might arise. insulated boots are perfect since you'll still be doing a lot of walking and you don't want to be burdened by the weight of your shoes. when in doubt, wear layers, you can always take a layer off if it gets too warm (it didn't happen in my case tho!). a hat/scarf/gloves - a lot of heat gets lost from your head so cover up. i wish i'd thought to bring handwarmers with me - gloves weren't enough.

Free city map
Miscellaneous: Don't forget to take a free city map of Vienna at one of the Tourist Information Offices. The map includes the locations and brief descriptions of the most important sights. An overview of the public transportation network is also included in the map.
The Main Tourist Information Office of Vienna is located at the Albertinaplatz; just behind the Opera . Another one can be found in the arrivals hall at the Aiport.- Backpacking

Not too much, but not too little luggage
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Vienna is a wonderful city, with many attractions.
All the much as possible to see of this city, you need comfortable shoes and clothing.
For a snug evening, in a sophisticated restaurant, or for one opera concert, you need fashionable and festive clothing.
No matter what you carry into your suitcase, you will have in Vienna, an agreeable and unforgettable one stay.
Photo Equipment: A camera and possibly also a video camera is a necessity for a trip to Vienna.- Historical Travel

Bring comfortable shoes for walking!
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: While the major attractions in Vienna are concentrated in a relatively small area, you'll still have to do a lot of walking during your visit to see everything. If you take the subway you'll miss all the great things above you! Be sure to bring comfortable shoes to keep your feet happy; otherwise you'll miss out on a lot of very interesting sights.

What To Take?
Luggage and bags: If you're into shopping (not my case), it's advised to take an extra bag. You can always put it in another bag if you don't need it!
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Always take good walking shoes because you'll cover a lot of kms walking round the city. It's also advised to wear layers of clothing for the same reason.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: If you're staying in a hostel, you'll be asked to take your towels, soap and other toiletries.
Photo Equipment: Be sure to have a good camera so that you can capture all the beauties of this wonderful city.
Miscellaneous: The weather in Vienna's changeable, at least it was such when we visited it, so you'd better take something warm, and don't go anywhere without your umbrella or a raincoat that you can put in your rucksack. -
I'VE GOT A LITTLE LIST - MAKE ONE BEFORE YOU PACK!
Luggage and bags: Don't use showy expensive luggage for it is more likely to attract the attention of a passing ruffian. Sensible suitcases are ideal - carrier bags only permissable if they have bare the crest of Fortnum and Mason that of a similar establishment. Dolce and G is simply brash and nouveau riche, Tesco is almost inexcusable, Marks and Spencer the only bag for a true Brit!
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Good thick walking socks are excellent standbys...'er, unless you happen to be going surfing. Mind you I could see that catching on - a splendid way of polishing your board whilst bedazzling the ladies with suitably sartorial sock designs!
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Stiff moustache wax is a must for the gentleman traveller. I carry mine at all times - I do, honestly! "But wait Major," I hear you cry, "Surely that cannot be so because not all male travellers have moustaches?" To which I reply, "True but not all male travellers are gentlemen!"
Photo Equipment: Alas, the days of the large mahogany plate camera have all but passed with the disappearance of the manservant and the rise in weight related hernias! However, I must say that these new fangled digital cameras are jolly good if and when you remember to charge them of course! All the snaps on this site were taken with a Fuji MX 1700 digital camera I bought some years ago - needless to say, you can now buy one with three times the pixels for a third of the cost!
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Camping is always a touch more enjoyable if you remember to take a tent. You may use this advice freely...
Miscellaneous: I shall endeavour to be sensible for a moment. Whatever you do, don't forget your adapters and travel plugs for cameras, electric razors etc Alas, I did, and I shall regale you with my tale of woe within the shopping section!- Luxury Travel

Thermals like my mum said!
Luggage and bags: Just bring one average sized bag and pack light, even in Winter - I was lugging a 35kg bag around with me - not pretty.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Boots Boots Boots. Flat/Heels/Cowboy, whatever. Just keep your feet covered as much as possible.
I also took a thermal vest and leggings (oh my goodness please don't try to imagine that picture, I am only 26!) but I must say I was very warm. I could wear jeans, a long sleeved top and a long coat. Bring a hat that covers your ears because your ears get very very cold, especially the tips! And of course, gloves are a must. Sydney siders - don't bring the ones we wear in Sydney! If you do, bring 3 pairs!
Photo Equipment: I brought a 35 mm SLR and a Canon Ixus 400. To be honest, my next trip will be with the digital only. There's too much to carry otherwise. But bring your own lithium batteries... these can get expensive in Europe. -
contact lense solution & tylenol
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: make sure you have enough contact lense solution for your trip- otherwise it costs 11 euros a bottle for bausch & lombe brand and make sure you have your tylenol and advil because you can't get it here easily at a drug store- they're more into herbal stuff and you have to go to a doctor and get prescription for anything stronger than that.
-
PACK LIGHT - LOOK GREAT
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: If you want to be able to feel comfortable now matter what restaurant or bar you walk into dress nicely. I brought dress pants, comfortable dress/walking boots - blouses and jackets. My husband wore chino's and collared shirts - that way no matter where we went - we were never under dressed...and believe me in this city - it's too easy to be UNDERDRESSED!
