Barbie dolls are every girl's dream. As a child, I was not different. What is different is that this attraction never left me at all even with the passage of time. The only thing that has changed is that I no longer play with them. I just collect them from different parts of the world and put them up in my show case. I don't have a photo to display all my collections, although I don't at all have many. All I have is about 10 till now, but my love for them increases every day. Recently I got these three in the photo from the collection of "Dances of the World". These are: Brazilian Carnival barbie, Cinco de Mayo (Mexico) Barbie and Irish dance barbie. These are the only ones i have with me here, rest of them are in India. My daughter is definitely going to be very happy :o) |
Another favourite hobby of mine is coin collection. Back in India, I have some rare value old coins as well apart from coins from different parts of the world. These coins displayed here are only those coins that I have collected during the last four months in my travels across Europe. Although I have travelled to only 5 European countries so far, I have collected coins from almost 10 european countries, partly from friends, and some from the coin museum at Stockholm in Sweden apart from the regular collections during visits. |
A good thing about my course here is that I have colleagues from around 40 countries of the world in my class. And once I made known this fact to them, some of them were really kind to bring me coins from all across the world. And so I have coins from Serbia, China, Columbia and Israel from them. However, some people really fail to understand this passion. What's in a coin? They say. there's lots in it. Well I don't want to explain. For me, the best souvenir from a country is its coins. I always bring some home. I do have some currency notes as well, back in home, my parents' place in Assam, India. All together, I believe, I must have about 100 coins from 30 countries, and around 10 currency notes, mainly those from Russia, one from Nepal and an old note from India. |
One collection that I am really proud of is my collection of stamps from around the world. I have approximately 4000 stamps from around 130 countries. But they are all back home with my mother. As a child, I was always curious about stamps, as my mother was a collector. I used to watch her. Then, sometime later, I started collecting too, and then my mother suddenly lost interest in collecting and I inherited her collection as well. Similar thing happened with a friend of mine, who too gave me all his collections. today I am the proud owner. I have perhaps added more than anybody, and now that my mother has retired from her job and has much time and I do not get much time, and suddenly she is interested in it again, I have given my collections to her for maintenance. I keep collecting stamps and sending them to her. The day she loses interest again, I am going to get back that treasured book. |
