This church located in St.Andrew's Descent is one of the pearls of architecture in Kiev. It is a museum church now and belongs to the state. You can also attend a public worship there. The church was built at the end of the 18th century and is a typical example of the city church architecture. St.Andrew is the Patron Saint of Ukraine. According to the popular belief, he sailed from the Black Sea up to where Kiev stands now and seeing the high hills on the right bank of the Dnipro said there would be a great city on those hills above the river. St.Andrew’s Church was designed by the outstanding Italian architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli and built in 1749-1754 in baroque. Its total height is 60 meters and its sizes are: width 23 meters and length 32 meters. It is a one-domed temple built in the form of a cross. Since 1968 there is a museum inside the church building.

| | Church of the Assumption of the Virgin This church is located not far from Contract Square in Lower Kiev. It was originally built in 1135 and blown up by the Bolsheviks in the thirties during their wild anti-church campaigne. It was rebuilt in 1996, but looks quite ancient, doesn't it? Its full name is the Church of the Assumption of the Most Holy Virgin.

St.Flor Women's Monastery in Lower Kiev This monastery is one of the three women monasteries in Kiev. All in all there are eight monasteries in the capital: five men's and three women's ones. There is a well with wonder-working water on the territory of St.Flor's Monastery. If you are firm in your Christian faith, you can get some water from the well and use it for your health.

| | The Holy Spring This is the spring with wonder-working water on the territory of the women's monastery in Lower Kiev. You can there bu bus if you take a city tour from the railway station. The company is located in the building of McDonald's opposite the railway station and takes you about the city for two hours (10 UAH).

St.Sophia Cathedral This cathedral is a large complex of buildings downtown. It's a state reserve now. There is public worship there, too.

| | St.Michael's Cathedral The cathedral was restored next to the present Foreign Ministry where it used to stand before it was blown up by the authorities in the thirties. It was rebuilt in 1996 in a very short period of time - less than two years. The interior is very impressive and contains the frescoes of many women martyrs and saints. The cathedral belongs to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate.

The Cave Monastery The churches of this church complex have received new domes! You could even touch the domes while they are still on the ground! The monastery itself is a huge complex of buildings and caves where the ancient monks used to live in their hand-made cells and pray. They are buried in those cave corridors and their coffins are a place of pilgrimage of many Orthodox Christians. Kiev Laura is one of the oldest in Ukraine and Russia. It was founded in 1051 by monks Antonius and Theodosius in caves. They built caves in the high cliffs of Upper Kiev and the monastery became a good refuge for lots of monks and the parish. Gradually it became the center of Christianity in ancient Ukraine and Russia, the feudal state called Kiev Rus. The monastery was honored with the status of laura in the 112th century. In 1744 the Big Belfry was erected. Its height is 96.5 meters. It was the highest structure in the city until the huige Motherland monument was erected on the neighboring hill and the monument’s height reached 102 meters, which is a bad sign for according to the old church chronicles, no building in the city can be higher than its belfry, otherwise the city will suffer.

| | Annunciation Cathedral This cathedral was also built on the ruins of the old cathedral blown up by the authorities in 1941. It looks very solemn and impressive with its numerous murals and lavish embellishments and domes! The monastery belfry with its height of 96 metres used to dominate the hills over the Dnipro until the Motherland statue was erected nearby in 1982. The statue proved to be 102 m hight, which infuriated the priests for according to the old tradition no building in the city could be higher that the belfry. It's considered bad luck.
