The city and district are famous for the unique nature of Provalye Steppe State Reserve located in about 25 km to the east of the city at the height of 325 meters above sea level.
Seven rivers flow on the district territory. All the rivers are parts of the system of the Velyka Kamyanka (the Great Stone River) that is a right tributary of the Seversky Donets - the biggest river of the region, the left tributary of the Don that flows into the Sea of Azov.
