Favorite Thing: Having a stroll from "Luhansk" hotel in Sovietskaya Street to Heroes Square.
You will see the monument to Taras Shevchenko, the Bard of Ukraine (1814-1861) to your right and the monument to the heroes of World War II with the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to your left.
The Heroes Obelisk has plaques with 167 names of the Heroes of the Soviet Union who were born in Luhansk region and a bronze sculpture of the Motherland and soldiers defending it.
Such monuments and memorials can be found in every town and city of our country.
During the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 the Soviet people displayed heroism on a mass scale. They gave a lot of examples of self-sacrifice.
The title of the Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded to 11,500 Soviet citizens, people from all parts of the country.
There is a nice park behind the Shevchenko monument. The park has a cafe and a beautiful fountain. There are several other cafes in the vicinity: "Alcuba", "Coffeehouse", "Prolissok", "Matrix" nightclub and others.
You can browse the square and go further to the Russian Drama Theater in Kotsyubinsky Street.

Fondest Memory: Sauntering in the woods in "Ostraya Mogila" forest park on the southern outskirts of the city and having a picnic near "our waterfall".

Favorite Thing: It you decide to walk along one of the central shopping and business streets in the city, you will see something like this.
You can visit lots of stores and cafes there.
Besides, there are several monuments and parks in this street.
The street is rather long, but you can walk along its central part on both sides of Heroes Square.
You can see some old Soviet apartment houses dating back to 1928 in one of the side streets close to the main street. They are behind "Aval" bank in Demiokhin Street.
You can see they were made of marl - the local building material mined at the nearby hills in the present Stone Ford District.

Fondest Memory: Attending a liturgy at the city cathedrals such as:
St.Nickolas Transfiguration Cathedral,
Philip's Chapel (where our saint, not yet canonized, Philip of Luhansk (1858-1956) is buried) and others, especially on Christmas and Easter.
St.Nickolas Transfiguration Cathedral is in October District at 111 International Street, that is, the end stop of streetcar #6 - not far from Rosa Luxembourg Square, City Conference Center (Lenin Palace of Culture).

Another famous cathedral is
St.Peter and St.Paul's Cathedral in Stone Ford District in the northern part of the city.
This is where the treasure of Luhansk is kept:
Luhansk Icon of the Most Holy Mother of God.
It is to the left of the cathedral altar.
You can also see another new cathedral here :
St.Alexander of the Neva Cathedral located in Budyonny Street in the East End next to the campus of the East-Ukrainian National University.

Favorite Thing: There are several Internet clubs downtown. They have "Linux" at their computers, high speed, things to order at the cafe and often vacant computers.
The drawback is that they often save at air-conditioning and you have to put up with the stuffy rooms...
The only drawback is they often allow to smoke there...

Favorite Thing: Many foreign travelers I have met wonder that we have so many different monuments and memorial places.
Many of those monuments are the Soviet legacy, others have been dedicated of late and are devoted to the city history and its outstanding people.
I think every year the city gets a new monument now, which was not the case in Soviet times.
This huge and impressive monument to Clement Voroshilov (1881-1969), a five-star general and a close associate of Joseph Stalin, stands in Voroshilov Square opposite the City Council at 14 Kotsyubinsky Street. I remember Voroshilov was called "The first red officer" in Soviet times.
The bronze monument itself is a work of art.
It represents "the first Soviet officer" greeting the army at the parade.
It was dedicated in 1981 when the centenary of Voroshilov's birth was celebrated.
They say the monument cost a pretty penny then.

Favorite Thing: Lots of foreign travelers I have met enjoyed taking pictures in front of Clement Voroshilov monument in Voroshilov Square opposite the City Council at 14 Kotsiubinsky Street.
There's a good view of the railway station, the West End districts, Stone Ford District and the neighboring blocks from this square.
The 12-meter high monument dedicated in 1981 is located next to the biggest apartment house in Luhansk.
This apartment house at 49 Kotsiubinsky Street consists of 700 apartments and was one of the Soviet gigantic construction sites in the seventies of the last century.

Favorite Thing: Among the great number of the city monuments this one is very popular.
Lots of people have come here to take a picture in front of this monument. You can always see flowers at its foot. The newly-weds usually lay flowers to the foot of this monuments and have their pictures taken. It usually takes place on Saturdays.
There are benches on both sides of the monument and it is/was lit with special light effects at night.
Many people bring flowers to the foot of this monument called
Christianity Jubilee Monument.
It was dedicated in December 2000. THey say it was carved of the special Italian granite.
The monument was dedicated to the 2,000th Jubilee of Christianity and is the masterpiece of a famous local sculptor and an architect. It was sanctified during its dedication by a large group of priests who came from all over Luhansk region.
