This nice festival traditionally takes place on the first weekend in September every year. It has been observed since 1981. The program of the festival includes a truck procession when the local amateur actors show family scenes from boards of the trucks that drive slowly along the main street. You can also enjoy the gala concert, kids' city exhibition and the fireworks display that starts at about 9 p.m. The fireworks display team works from the roof of the City Council building and the display lasts for about ten minutes.

Local Customs: Datchas for the City Residents

A lot of city residents have or had datchas. They are a good place to stay in the open, to grow your own vegetables and fruit. This is my parents’ datcha located on the northern outskirts of the city. The Datcha district was formed in 1978 and my parents have had their datcha since that time. I also helped them to build a small cottage in 1979. They grow different vegetables there: potatoes, cabbage, tomatoes, cucumbers, paprika, pepper, etc. They also have several fruit-trees. Best of all I like their big and delicious apples!

Local Customs: Memorial Plaques

Like in many towns and cities in the former Soviet Union countries, there are memorial plaques in the city dedicated to outstanding people who used to live and work in the city or who took part in its lkiberation during the war. This memorial plaque is at the building if Ukrcommunebank at 1 Doichev Street. The plaque says the street was called in honor of lieutenant Vadim Doichev (1923-1945), Hero of the Soviet Union. The street connects former Palace Square with Smirnov Street (former School Street).
There is a memorial plaque at School #1 saying that it was the rist school in the town.
Another memorial plaque: On December 21, 1919 the Red Army units liberated the station of Rubizhne from the White Guards
Another memorial plaque: On January 31, 1943 the Soviet Army units liberated the town of Rubizhne from the German fascist invaders
I likes the words at the monument to Liberators in Liberators Street: Your courage was unparalleled, your will was unbending, your feat of arms is immortal

wandeljp Sun Mar 16, 2008 08:07 UTC I see that, as at our place, the war to left of the tracks. Even here it must never been forget, but I prefer to turn myself towards the future. I liked the mosaic of peace and the new cathedral.
